Rocky Mount Community Park and dog park ribbon-cutting
Rocky Mount, Virginia – On Thursday, September 5 at 10 a.m., Rocky Mount Community Park and Franklin County’s first dog park will have their grand opening.
Following the expiration of the land lease in 2022, the Town of Rocky Mount reclaimed ownership of the new park from the Franklin County YMCA.
With 19 acres, including an additional acre for a dog park and a new parking lot, Rocky Mount Community Park will be the biggest park in the municipality.
Dog drinking fountains, regulations signage, pet owner chairs, and spaces designated for large (40 lbs. and more) and little (under 40 lbs.) dogs are some of the new elements of the dog park. The Town of Rocky Mount and a gift from the Rocky Mount Rotary Club contributed funding for the dog park.
A three-quarter mile paved trail with benches and exercise stations circling the forested area is one of Community Park’s additional attractions.
“The Town is delighted to be able to add this lovely, woodland park to our collection along with Franklin County’s first dog park. We continue to focus on quality-of-life projects like our park system. Initiatives like this support economic growth and population retention in addition to improving our quality of life in this area. Many locals that I have spoken to are thrilled about the park and how many people are already enjoying it, stated C. Holland Perdue III, the mayor.
