Economic Development Department Director selected by the city
Roanoke, Virginia – Starting from July 13, 2021, Marc B. Nelson will take charge of the Economic Development Department for the city of Roanoke as a director. He was selected from 40 applicants for this position.
Nelson has an MPA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as a BA in history from the same institution. He graduated at Roanoke College Management Institute and his current position is Manager of the Department of Economic Development. Also, from 2011 to 2019, Nelson has worked as Special Projects Coordinator in the same department.
He worked for six and a half years as Development Services Liaison and Public/Private Development Coordinator in the Development Services Department within the City of Savannah. Nelson also worked for two years as Budget Analyst.
“Marc has been a valuable asset to the City’s economic development initiatives, and we are pleased to have him take the helm for this department, as Roanoke continues its work to attract and expand the businesses in our Community. We are fortunate to have his leadership,” City Manager Bob Cowell said.
