Garden City Greenway
Garden City Greenway is a paved trail that follows Garnand Branch Creek and is adjacent to Garden City Boulevard from the Roanoke River Greenway near Mount Pleasant Road to Yellow Mountain Road. To date, the following sections are open to the public:
- Phase 1, from Ivywood Road to Yellow Mountain Road, follows along Garden City Boulevard and was designed and built from 2014-2017. It connects many residents, businesses and Garden City Elementary School to the Garden City Recreation Center on Yellow Mountain Road.
- Phase 2, from Riverland Road to Ivywood Road, was designed and built from 2016-2019. This stretch is more of a separated shared-use trail on the lower stretch where it follows Garnand Branch Creek. From Bandy Road to Ivywood Road it follows Garden City Boulevard.
The following section is under design and has yet to be funded:
- Phase 3 from Garden City Recreation Center at Yellow Mountain Road to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The entire Garden City Greenway trail is 2.03 miles in length from the Roanoke River intersection to Garden City Recreation Center and provides pedestrian and bicycle accommodations where there were none.
