FemCity Roanoke is hosting networking events in honor of Women’s History Month
Roanoke, Virginia – Women’s History Month is in March, and FemCity Roanoke is supporting women by organizing networking events all month long.
FemCity is all about giving women in business encouragement, support, and empowerment.
“You can thrive when someone says I see you, I hear you, I know you and I’m here to support you and that’s what FemCity does for me,” said the FemCity Roanoke Diversity Chair and Maxwell Leadership Certified Team Executive Director, Dr. Melinda Hill.
The global membership-based organization is committed to giving women in company ownership and corporate leadership opportunities.
“We are in over 70 cities across the U.S. and other countries. We do that through networking, educational programs, things like that. With a group like FemCity, you’re working with people who have been where you want to go. There’s a lot of mentorship and showing you the ropes on how to get there, but also just pouring in an amazing amount of belief and faith into you and what you’re passionate about,” said FemCity Roanoke President and Director of Corporate Programs Beth Bell.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, FemCity Roanoke is celebrating its seventh year of existence and cordially welcomes local women to join them for special programming.
“Recent research shows there has been an increase in implicit bias towards women and under-represented populations in persons with disabilities. So now is an excellent time to celebrate women and celebrate their contributions. I work in corporate America and so for me having a group where they’re just my people. Where I feel like I belong and that’s what FemCity is for me, it’s a sisterhood,” said Hill.
In March, there will be several networking opportunities available, such as a coffee talk, an after-hours get-together, and an informative lunch and learn. Bell added that every event gives women a chance to express their thanks, offers, and victories.
“One of the biggest benefits that I’ve seen is I have so many women in the Roanoke Chapter who have said they would not be in business without FemCity Roanoke and the support they have received. We have had almost 350 members over the past 7 years, and it’s been all by word of mouth. So, for us we love doing these more public events so that more women can learn about what we do and learn that their community is here,” said Bell.
