During the fire response efforts on Wades Gap Road, Monte Vista Church serves as an emergency hub

Franklin County, Virginia – During the recent Wades Gap Road fire, the Monte Vista Church of the Brethren in Callaway served as a command center for emergency personnel, offering vital assistance to the firefighting operations.
The church’s proximity to the fire and Wi-Fi made it the perfect place for a temporary headquarters, according to Pastor Gina Wright-Hawkins of Monte Vista Church.
Firefighters could eat and recuperate at the church before going back to fight the fire.
According to Wright-Hawkins, “We were just honored. It was like, “Of course—and we’ll be there, what do you need?” rather than, “Are we going to do this?”
More than 100 individuals entered the church, she said, and members of the community stepped forward to help the first responders.
During the tense period, Wright-Hawkins also allowed individuals to pray in the sanctuary.
