Apartment complex fire prompted evacuation of eight people
Martinsville, Virginia – Officials in Martinsville say an early-morning fire at a multi-family apartment complex has prompted the evacuation of eight residents.
According to authorities, the fire broke out at 1:30 a.m. inside an apartment complex at 1032 Mountain Road.
When firefighters got on the site, they reported encountering significant smoke coming from unit #3 in the complex.
All the people in the building were able to get out safely, and the American Red Cross was there to help the eight people who were displaced.
Authorities think the fire started in the kitchen near the stove as a result of unsupervised cooking.
