Man taken into custody after robbing Roanoke business
Roanoke, Virginia – A man accused of robbing a store in downtown Roanoke on Tuesday has been taken into custody.
At around 2:15 p.m., officers were sent to a business in the 200 block of S. Jefferson Street SE for a report of a robbery that had taken place. The name of the shop that was robbed was not released by the police.

According to authorities, employees reported to authorities that a man had entered the shop and demanded money. No threats were made, and he did not draw a weapon on anybody.
According to the Roanoke Police Department, the suspect, subsequently identified as 44-year-old Leonard D. Childress of Roanoke, fled the scene with an unknown amount of money.
Childress was arrested on Friday without incident. He has been charged with robbery in connection with the incident that took place on Tuesday.
Authorities said that the investigation into this case is still underway.
