Maryland family scared after their toddler receives a Covid-19 shot by mistake
A family of Maryland were scared and speechless after discovering that their 4-year-old toddler got the Covid-19 vaccine by mistake, since the vaccine is not yet authorized for children of that age.
Pfizer is trying to get an emergency approval for vaccination of kids as young as 5.
The mixup happened when the Olivier family went to an area Walgreens with intention to get their annual flu shot.
The 4-year-old toddler, Collete, wanted to get the vaccine first. The pharmacist, after applying the shot to the girl, realized that instead of annual flu shot he gave the girl an adult dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
At that moment, many questions were running through the Olivier family heads, such as would their toddler need a medical help? Would there be any side effects from the shot in the future?
However, the family said they’ll not ask an investigation of Maryland regulators.
Walgreens released a statement regarding this case:
“Patient safety is our top priority. Events like this are extremely rare and we take this matter very seriously. We are in touch with the patient’s family and we have apologized. Our multi-step vaccination procedure includes several safety checks to minimize the chance of human error. We’ve recently reviewed this process with our pharmacy staff in order to prevent a future occurrence.”
